Hermetic Bowl in Apple
$1,974.91
Bowl #729
Description
Hermetic Bowls have their strings pass through the wall at the tail and rise over it, direct to the tuning pegs at the other. Together with their fan pattern, this gives a sound with more complex overtones than other types. The deepest note is placed centrally, with higher notes alternating left and right towards the outer edge of the bowl, (similar to many African instruments.) Playing this throws one out of the usual European concept of “linear tune” and creates a space for freer improvisation. Superficially similar to a Lyre Bowl, Hermetic Bowls have a little more jazz-like wow in the notes.
In this seven-string model the notes, tuned to ancient Pentatonic intervals, open up the spaces of the Celtic tradition, connecting us to the wilds of the herding/fishing lifestyle so far from the safety of modern life.
Apple rarely grows large enough for Sounding Bowls. It gives a sweet clarity to the sound. Made by Ramon in Austria who graduated the maker’s training in 2013, the first to do so, this bowl comes from a tree near to his Salzburg workshop. As a particularly well-balanced, and sweet sounding example of the type, particularly suited for use in pregnancy or with young children.
There is an optional Ritual-Wrap available for this bowl @£220.
The Ritual Wrap is a hand sewn cloth-bag to enfold and protect, as seen in this video.
